Cinematic Sanctuary: Stories of Home

Dir. Steve Box, Nick Park  | UK, USA  | 85 mins | Cert U  | 2005 | Animation

Followed by a modelling workshop inspired by the film, including rabbits, giant vegetables, pumpkins, and mystery!

Wallace and Gromit’s business venture is a humane pest-control outfit called ‘Anti-Pesto’, but the enterprising duo are finding it hard to manage all the captive rabbits taking over West Wallaby Street. Now they’ve been tasked with tracking down the mysterious beast that’s been decimating the town’s vegetable plots. With the fate of Lady Tottington’s much-loved Giant Vegetable Competition hanging in the balance, can Wallace and Gromit save the day?

2026 marks the 50th anniversary of Aardman Animations -the South West-based iconic stop-motion studio- and we are celebrating with the screening of Wallace and Gromit’s first feature-length film, a critical and commercial success that won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

The film explores the idea of “Home Sweet Home,” including all the imaginable ups and downs, and presents different types of British houses, from the terraced houses of West Wallace Street to the elegant Tottington Hall inspired by Montacute House, Somerset.

Cinematic Sanctuary: Stories of Home is a season of films at The Old Town Hall -from October 2026 to June 2027- as part of a cross-community initiative in Swindon, Wiltshire, and Gloucestershire, supported by BFI awarding National Lottery funds.
The Old Town Hall’s independent film programme has been curated by Lorena Pino Montilla, as part of the wider Stories of Home project.
