An urban sketch is a drawing created on location, indoors or out, capturing what the sketcher sees from direct observation.
Urban sketchers use any kind of media to tell the story of their surroundings, the places they live, and where they travel.
This is a very informal gathering. We will meet at the Old Town Hall at 11am. There will be a few moments just to say hello then individuals disperse and choose a subject for sketching. We allow 2 hours to make a drawing or painting, then meet together at 1pm in the Hall for a ‘throwdown’.
By throwdown we mean showing the sketches all together. It is not compulsory to share a sketch, but it is an important part of the event. And it is always really rewarding to see other people’s work, their drawing styles and materials. Sketches are always very varied, personal and beautiful. They make a delightful record of the town as it is. At the end it’s normal to take a few photos of sketchers and their work.
The event is free but you must bring you owning drawing materials.
The throwdown usually extends into a time of socialising, coffee, cake etc. so allow extra time to enjoy the delights of the Avonfield Café.
