Lost Chapters (Los capítulos perdidos) UK preview

Including a remote Q&A with the director and additional activity.

“Despite its doubtless infinitesimal budget, just about any image in it displays more immediate observation and spontaneous creation than any of the script illustrations put gigantically onscreen in ‘The Odyssey,’ ” – Richard Brody, The New Yorker

After years abroad, Ena returns to Venezuela with a fragmented sense of self. At home, she finds her grandmother losing her grasp of reality. Meanwhile, her father spends his days searching for rare books to safeguard the country’s literary past. When Ena discovers a mysterious postcard inside a book, she embarks on a search across Caracas to uncover a forgotten writer. Her search gradually interweaves with her grandmother’s memory loss and her father’s quixotic dreams.

Lorena Alvarado is a Venezuelan filmmaker based between Barcelona and New York. Los Chapters (Los capítulos perdidos) is her debut film, a hybrid production blending fiction and documentary, made with a micro budget and starring her own family members.

The film presents the idea of home with a sense of nostalgia, marked by migration and lost memory.

“The socio-political crisis in Venezuela is so intense that it is frequently at the forefront of our filmmaking as a country. I purposefully wanted to stray away from that and allude to the situation in subtle ways. I wanted to create a connection to my home that was intimate and timeless”–  Lorena Alvarado, Film director

This is the very first time Lost Chapters is publicly screened in the UK.

Cinematic Sanctuary: Stories of Home is a season of films at The Old Town Hall -from October 2026 to June 2027- as part of a cross-community initiative in Swindon, Wiltshire, and Gloucestershire, supported by BFI awarding National Lottery funds.
The Old Town Hall’s independent film programme has been curated by Lorena Pino Montilla, as part of the wider Stories of Home project.
