Cinematic Sanctuary: Stories of Home

Friday 12: Honeymoon (Medovyi misiats)

Dir. Zhanna Ozirna | Ukraine  | 84 mins | Cert TBC  | 2024 | Drama, thriller

+ Special commemorative activity. Five years of the Russian invasion.

February 23, 2022, a small town near Kyiv. Taras (35) and Olia (32) spend the first night in their new apartment. At dawn, they wake to explosions. They can’t leave the town in time; meanwhile, Russian troops set up headquarters in their building. The couple finds themselves trapped in their flat with no electricity, water, or mobile connection. For the next 5 days, Taras and Olia will explore the black abyss of real intimacy between two people and face crucial existential questions in mortal danger.

“Shot entirely on location in Kyiv, Honeymoon also doubles as a haunting time capsule. The city’s looming presence, once a symbol of home and possibility, becomes an unsteady backdrop to survival. Every creaking floorboard, every sound from outside the window carries weight. AJ Friar- Elements of Madness
